ICDL participates in the International Conference on “Digital Transformation in Education – From Core to Comprehensive” in HCM City

On October 28, 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training organized an international conference on digital transformation in the education sector. The event was held in both in-person and online formats, under the chairmanship and participation of: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc,Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Vice Chairman of the National Digital Transformation Steering Committee; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Vice Head of the City’s Digital Transformation Steering Committee, and Head of the Education Digital Transformation Taskforce; Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training; and M.A. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

Under the theme “Digital Transformation in Education – From Core to Comprehensive”, the conference brought together leaders from the education sector, representatives of government agencies, organizations, and enterprises operating in education from Vietnam and around the world.

The conference focused on key topics, including: Solutions for improving digital infrastructure to support transformation efforts; Training and upskilling programs to enhance the digital competencies of administrators, teachers, and staff; Digital transformation initiatives in teaching, learning, and student assessment; and The implementation of the project “Smart Education and Lifelong Learning in Ho Chi Minh City (2021–2030)”.

The ICDL Foundation was honored to participate as a guest speaker, sharing insights on contributing to the development of the European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp), as well as models of collaboration and implementation of the ICDL program with governments in various countries. Ms. Tina Wu, General Manager of ICDL Asia, represented the organization and shared international best practices from Thailand, China, Singapore, and other nations that have successfully integrated ICDL into their national digital transformation strategies.
In Vietnam, the ICDL Digital Student Program is currently being implemented across schools in Ho Chi Minh City under the project “Improving Informatics Competence for Students Based on International Standards (2021–2030)”. Developed by experts from the The Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS) and the ICDL Foundation, the program has been adopted by numerous countries worldwide.
Through this initiative, students in Ho Chi Minh City are not only strengthening their ICT knowledge and skills in alignment with the city’s educational goals but also achieving internationally recognized standards of digital competence.
In conclusion, Ms. Tina Wu reaffirmed ICDL’s commitment to accompany the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training in sharing global experiences, supporting strategic objectives, and contributing to the city’s broader vision of digital transformation in education.
